Picking the right window package starts with three honest questions: what is the home asking for, what does the climate demand, and what does the budget actually allow? Get those right and the rest of the decision tree resolves itself.
Match the style to the architecture
Casement windows look at home on contemporary builds while double-hung profiles complement older Craftsman or heritage homes. Mixing aggressively-modern profiles into a 1970s bungalow rarely reads well at resale.
Pay attention to energy ratings
Not all windows perform the same way. Look for an ENERGY STAR rating that matches Alberta’s zone 3 climate, and ask the installer for the actual U-factor — anything above 1.2 is worth questioning.
Get the frame material right
Vinyl wins on price and on thermal performance; fibreglass wins on strength and on stability over time; aluminum wins on slim sightlines but loses on insulation. Most Calgary homes are best served by welded vinyl.
