Daylight in a Dark Foyer
Most entryways have no window of their own. An outside door with glass lets daylight reach the hallway, so you turn on fewer lights during the day.
Sunbusters Windows & Doors replaces worn front doors with new front entry doors with glass in Calgary, Airdrie, Chestermere, Okotoks and Cochrane. We supply the door, take out the old one and install the new door in your existing opening.
A glass entry door is an exterior door, usually steel or fiberglass, with a sealed glass panel built into it. The glass can be a small window near the top, half the door, or nearly its full height. In exterior doors with glass, the panel is tempered safety glass inside an insulated double or triple pane unit, so it holds heat and breaks safely. As an official Jeld-Wen dealer, we replace residential exterior doors across Calgary, Alberta and nearby towns. Every estimate is free.

Clear glass is only one option. Frosted, textured and decorative glass let light in while blurring the view inside. ODL also makes door glass with blinds sealed between the panes, so you can tilt them open or closed and never dust them.
Today’s entry doors with glass use a sealed unit of two or three panes with a Low-E coating, often filled with argon gas. The inside pane stays warmer, so the entry feels less drafty than with older, uncoated door glass.
The front door is the first thing guests and buyers notice. Front entrance doors with glass, especially with matching sidelites, make an older home look updated without touching the rest of the exterior.
Glass runs nearly the full height of the door inside a narrow steel or fiberglass border. Exterior doors with full glass bring in the most light and suit modern homes and covered porches.
A glass panel fills the top half while the bottom stays solid. You get daylight at eye level, and the lower panel takes the knocks from boots, strollers and snow shovels.
One or more slim vertical glass strips run along the door, often with black frames. It is a popular look among modern glass exterior doors on Calgary infills, and it keeps more privacy than a wide panel.
A front door with glass panels on one or both sides, plus an optional panel above, widens the entrance and turns it into a bright glass doorway. A good fit when the door itself should stay solid or half glass.
Two hinged doors with matching glass that open from the centre. We install French doors in Calgary as a front entrance or as a back door to the deck. See double door replacement for more two-panel options.
A glass door weighs more than a solid one. If the frame is even slightly out of square, the hinges strain and gaps open in the weatherstrip, so the install decides how long the door lasts.

Yes. Door glass is tempered, which makes it about four times stronger than regular glass, and it crumbles into small pieces instead of sharp shards if it breaks. Most forced entries target the lock and frame, so we fit each glass front door with a strong lock and long screws that anchor the strike plate into the wall framing.
Triple pane holds more heat and resists frost on the inside glass during cold snaps, so it suits doors that face north or take the wind. Double pane with Low-E costs less and works well under a covered porch or on a south-facing entry. We recommend one after seeing where your door sits.
Prices for exterior doors in Calgary depend on the door material, the size and type of glass, sidelites or a transom, hardware, and whether the old frame needs repair. Two doors that look alike can differ a lot in cost, so we give a written quote after measuring your opening. The estimate is free.
Often, yes. If the door is solid and not warped, the glass insert in a steel or fiberglass door can be swapped on its own. If the door is rusted, swollen or drafty, a full replacement is the better value.
Most do. A standard single front door is 36 by 80 inches, and we measure your rough opening before ordering. If your opening is not standard, we order a custom size or adjust the framing.
Most single front exterior doors take one day to install, including removal of the old door, sealing, trim and cleanup. Sidelites or a transom can add time. Your old door stays in place until install day, so your home is never left open.
